Music & Movement
Pre-School
The Music and Movement class invites preschool students to explore and experience foundational elements of music and movement through play-based activities. This class follows Dr. John Feieraband's Frist Steps in Music curriculum, an 8-part musical workout consisting of pitch exploration, fragment singing, simple songs, improvisation, movement exploration, movement form form and expression, beat motion activities, and song tales. The movement portion of the class is based on Rudolf von Laban's framework of movement, which includes awareness of body, effort, shape, and shape.
Elementary
In this class students sing, play, listen, dance, and create. The music portion of the class includes singing, active listening, and music literacy. The movement portion of the class incorporates both creative and choreographed movement, with an emphasis on folk dance. Students will learn folk dances in longways sets, simple circles, and Sicilian circles.
*students must be the minimum age specified by mid-October of the school year to attend class.
